The ORIGAMI Harmony Cup was born from a specific question: Is it possible to develop a cup that focuses specifically on the perception of coffee aroma?

Indonesian barista Ryan Wibawa, third-place winner of the 2024 World Brewers Cup, brought this idea to his collaboration with ORIGAMI. When working with different specialty coffees, he was searching for a cup shape that would highlight the individual characteristics of various coffees as distinctly as possible.

The result combines elements of two models from ORIGAMI's Aroma Series: the Aroma Cup and the Pinot Aroma Cup. The base shape is designed to collect volatile aromas within the cup rather than allowing them to escape immediately. When lifting the cup, this allows the complex and fruity aromas of specialty coffee in particular to unfold clearly.

The gently flared Pinot rim also plays a central role. When tilting the cup, it is designed to guide the coffee broadly and evenly over the tongue. This allows different flavor components—such as acidity, sweetness, body, and subtle bitter notes—to be perceived in a differentiated manner.

Especially for light-roasted specialty coffees with distinct acidity, fruitiness, and complex flavor notes, the Harmony Cup thus offers an exciting way to engage even more intensely with the coffee at hand.

The cup is crafted from porcelain in Japan. With a brim-full capacity of 320 ml, it is suitable for daily filter coffee as well as for cuppings, cafés, and the purposeful tasting of special coffees.

The colors of the Harmony Cup

For the Harmony series, ORIGAMI also incorporates visual perception into the concept. The different colors are intended to support specific sensory associations:

White & Matte Black are kept deliberately neutral, putting the focus on the color and aroma of the coffee itself.

Matte Green was designed with the association of a fresh, light, apple-like acidity.

Matte Pink, on the other hand, is intended to support associations with fruit sweetness and a fuller, fruity flavor.

This is ORIGAMI’s design-sensory concept—the color of the cup does not, of course, change the actual composition of the coffee.
