Do I need a coffee scale?

For a delicious, freshly brewed cup of coffee, choosing the right type of coffee is crucial, as is measuring the right amount of ground coffee. To ensure you get the best flavor from your coffee, we recommend measuring your coffee precisely. In addition to numerous filter coffee and espresso varieties, CAPTN Coffee also offers suitable brewing accessories, such as exclusive coffee scales.

The right amount of coffee

Since measuring out the coffee grounds using a teaspoon is quick but very inaccurate, we recommend purchasing a coffee scale. This allows you to measure out the exact amount of coffee grounds when preparing coffee or espresso, which has a positive effect on the taste of your coffee or espresso. Coffee lovers have therefore sworn by professional precision scales for years. Depending on the brand and model, some coffee scales have a built-in stopwatch in addition to a simple weight display. Other scales can also be connected to your phone via Bluetooth and brewed according to the instructions using an app. You can usually find many different recipes there that can serve as inspiration. In addition to the exact weight of your coffee grounds, the brewing time and preparation method are also crucial factors for the taste of your coffee or espresso.
With a coffee scale, you can easily find the optimal ratio of water to ground coffee. Their compact dimensions mean they fit even in the smallest kitchen. Find the right model for you and enjoy exquisite coffee and espresso every day in your own kitchen.

Questions & Answers

How do I find the best coffee scale for me?

Before choosing a model, consider what features you want in a coffee scale. Is a model with a weight display and timer for monitoring the amount and brewing time sufficient for you? Or would you also like to connect your scale to your phone via Bluetooth to discover new coffee and espresso recipes in various apps? The price of the coffee scale will, of course, depend on your preferences for design and functionality. With us, you're guaranteed to find the right model for your home kitchen.

What should I look for when buying a coffee scale?

To enjoy the best coffee or espresso, you should make sure that the coffee scale displays the weight as accurately as possible. The scale should display at least 1-gram increments. The scale should also be robust and waterproof so you can easily wipe it clean. Depending on the model, the scale is powered by a rechargeable battery or batteries. If you prefer one of these options, you should also consider this when purchasing.

What is the difference between a kitchen scale and a coffee scale?

If you're wondering whether you can simply use kitchen scales instead of coffee scales, we advise against it. Firstly, because the scale on a standard kitchen scale is usually less accurate than that on a coffee scale. Since the art of brewing coffee lies in precisely measuring the water and grounds, even slight deviations in the coffee dosage caused by inaccurate scales can affect the taste. Secondly, unlike kitchen scales, precision scales have a built-in timer, allowing you to conveniently keep an eye on the brewing time as well as the weight. In terms of size, a coffee scale is also the better choice for coffee preparation, as many models can also be used under a portafilter machine thanks to their compact dimensions.
