Wacaco is a start-up based in Hong Kong. It was founded in 2013 and specializes in the production of travel coffee machines. Starting as a private project to develop a small espresso machine, Wacaco now sells its products worldwide. The founder Hugo Cailleton came up with the idea for a portable espresso machine while on a business trip, when he drank a bad espresso in a hotel. Back home, he started developing it and it was a long road to the start-up Wacaco.

How do Wacaco espresso machines work?

The first product developed by Wacaco founder Hugo Cailleton was the Wacaco Minipresso GR. It has an integrated hand pump that you simply operate at the push of a button. This creates pressure and the hot water is pressed through the ground espresso powder. After 5 to 10 even pumpings, the espresso flows into the integrated cup. This function is similar to that of a portafilter machine, which is why the espresso from the Wacaco Minipresso can easily keep up with the taste of the espresso from the portafilter machine. The other espresso machines from Wacaco have the same function and are therefore self-explanatory and intuitive to use. With the Wacaco Pipamoka, the filter coffee is prepared by turning: the filter coffee flows into the integrated isothermal cup due to vacuum pressure. The Wacaco Cuppamoka coffee machine, on the other hand, works like a hand filter thanks to the coffee filter.

How do I clean the Wacaco travel coffee machines?

The best way to clean your Wacaco coffee maker is by hand. You can clean the cup and filter in the dishwasher at home from time to time. You also get a small cleaning brush with the Wacaco products.

What is the capacity of the Wacaco travel coffee machines?

Depending on the model, the Wacaco coffee makers have a capacity for one cup of espresso or coffee. The portable espresso machines Minipresso and Nanopresso have a water capacity of 0.07 or 0.08 l and a capacity for approx. 8 g of ground coffee. You can optionally add a water tank for two espressos or an adapter for Nespresso capsules. The Wacaco Pipamoka travel coffee machine, on the other hand, holds 0.3 l of water and approx. 16 g of ground coffee.
