manufacturing
The manufacture of the AeroPress Box begins with cutting the multiplex panel (format: 2500x1250 mm) using a sliding table saw. The individual parts are then marked with a carpenter's mark in order to make orientation and assignment easier for the employee. In the next step, the finger joints of the individual sides are milled with a router with a dovetail template and the grooves in the sides and bottom are milled with a table milling machine. Thus, the fit is given and the body can be seamlessly plugged into each other. The grooves in the base serve as a hold and guide for the slide-in base. In the next step, the bottom and the lid are rebated with a table router so that they fit in the groove. Then the body is sanded down with an eccentric sander and then glued. For the slide-in base, holes are drilled with a pillar drill, which serve for the portioning spoon and spade. Then the cover is fitted and the front strip is glued. In the penultimate step, the box receives the CAPTN Coffee logo branded with a 450°C branding iron, in order to finally experience an external natural oil treatment for longevity.
Dallas workshops
The box was made by hand in the Daller workshops. The Werk- und Lebensgemeinschaft Dalle e.V. is a facility for mentally handicapped people in Eschede. It offers people with disabilities a place to live and a permanent job. In addition to a carpentry workshop, there are other workshop areas such as a pottery workshop and a weaving workshop. All products made in the workshops are handmade.
